Yankton College Scholarships
The Yankton College Scholarship Committee announces each academic year
its $1000 schoalrship listing. These scholarships are awarded on a one-time basis to deserving high school
graduates and post-graduate students to use at an accredited college or university.
Since 1990, Yankton College has awarded over $250,000 to more than 200 students
to begin their college or graduate studies.
Applications are available from the Yankton College office every November 1.
All applications and supporting materials are due in the YC office in mid-February. The applications are reviewed
and the applicant selection is brought to the YC Board of Trustees for approval at the April Board Meeting. In May,
the names are announced. The scholarship amount is paid directly to the college or university in the name of the
scholarship recipient in August.
General Scholarships
The Carl and Cle Youngworth Scholarship
Given in memory for the significant contributions of Carl ('19) and Cle ('28) Youngworth to Yankton College as alums, faculty
and supporters of the college.
The Brown-Daniels Scholarship
Given in recognition of Yankton College alumni, Bernard T. Daniels ('35) and his wife, Helen Brown-Daniels ('34).
The Rosamond Burgi Hall Memorial Scholarship
Given in recognition of Rosamond Burgi Hall's many years of service to Yankton College as a superior foreign language teacher
and scholar. This scholarship is awarded to a student with a proven aptitude in one or more foreign languages.
The Bennett/Walter Scholarship
Endowed by the generosity of Mrs. Louise Davis ('37) Bennett Walter to honor the memories of Millard Bennett ('37) and Donald E. Walter ('39).
The Rivola Family Scholarship
Endowed by the generosity of Robert S. Rivola (x'35) in memory of his family that included: mother, Flora Shufelt ('39) Rivola, father Charles E. Rivola,
and sisters, Helen Rivola ('32) Fawcett and Glennis Rivola ('29) Heiner.
General Scholarship Criteria
| 1. |
Applicant must be seeking a baccalaureate degree from an accredited university or college as
a full-time student. |
| 2. |
Applicant must either have: a) a family relationship to Yankton College alumni, former faculty or staff,
or b) a family friend, teacher, pastor or other person with a connection to Yankton College may recommend the applicant. |
| 3. |
Preference points will be given to applicant seeking a liberal arts degree. |
| 4. |
Preference points will be given to applicant who plan to attend a private college or
university. |
| 5. |
Each applicant must show evidence of high academic ability and promise. |
| 6. |
Include at least 2 letters of reference from a teacher and/or guidance counselor of the student's
secondary school attesting to scholastic ability, leadership qualities and character. |
| 7. |
Include a personal statement demonstrating creativity and skill in writing, which includes an
achievement you are especially proud of or an obstacle you have overcome against all odds. |
To assure fairness, all information is verified and all applications are blinded before sent to reviewers
to be evaluated.

Post-Graduate Scholarships
The Dr. Fritz A. Brink Scholarship
Endowed by the generosity of Elinor Brink to honor the memory of her husband, Dr. Fritz A. Brink (x'04).
The Richard Garret Sherman Scholarship
Endowed by Louise Sherman and Lucy Elliott, wife and daughter of Dr. Richard Garrett Sherman ('41)
to honor his memory. This scholarship is awarded to a student with a proven aptitude and promise
in pursuing a career in teaching American History.

Verified and blinded applications are sent to the reviewers. |

The scholarship recipients are selected. |

Checks are mailed to the college or university of each recipient. |
